Francis "Frank" McAteer Obituary

Francis William McAteer, affectionately known as Frank, passed away on September 15, 2023,
at the age of 70. Born in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New York, on August 31, 1953,
Frank brought a contagious energy and a mischievous sense of humor wherever he went.
Frank's professional journey involved all aspects in the field of Information Technology. From
Computer Operator, to Application Programmer writing programs in Cobol and TCPIP
assembler language. To a Systems Administrator in the Unisys mainframe environment, to an
administrator in the Unix environment. An Oracle DBA and then an administrator for backup
and recovery systems. He worked for various companies throughout his career, always giving
100% dedication to his job.
But Frank's true passion was riding his Harley Davidson Trike. He loved riding the back roads
of North Carolina and Virginia and embarking on thrilling adventures to Myrtle Beach and the
Dragon’s Tail through the picturesque mountains, always accompanied by his beloved wife
Laura. Together, they experienced the freedom of the open road, creating cherished memories
along the way, with their friends Bruce and Kathy.
As a die-hard New York Mets fan, Frank reveled in the highs and lows of cheering for his
beloved team. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he could often be found engaging in rousing
debates about how terrible the Mets were doing but he was still a fan.
When not tearing up the asphalt or shouting at the TV during a Mets game, Frank enjoyed the
thrill of a good poker game with his buddies. With a mischievous grin and a quick wit, he kept
everyone entertained with his jokes and playful pranks.
Frank’s favorite vacations were the cruises he and Laura would take with his favorite brother in
law, Jay and sister in law Suzanne. There were so many great memories created during those
cruises.
Frank is survived by his cherished wife of 37 years, Laura McAteer, who stood by his side
through thick and thin. His children, Sherri Galloway (David), Jill Aldridge, and son Frank
McAteer (Allison), will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. Grandchildren Kayla, Ella, Chloe
and Frankie will fondly remember their grandfather's infectious laughter and warm hugs. His
sister Barbara and nephews Kyle McAteer, Tom Jackson and niece Kelli Jackson.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Barbara McAteer, his sister Karen
Jackson, and brother-in-law Tom Jackson. Their memories will forever be cherished alongside
Frank's.
No services are planned at this time, as Frank's free spirit continues to roam the roads of
eternity. Everybody loved Frank, and being around him was an experience in itself. His
mischievous nature and love for life brought joy to all who had the privilege to know him.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Frank, let us remember him as the free-spirited joker and
prankster that he was—a man who embraced life with open arms and a twinkle in his eye. Ride
on, Frank, and may your laughter echo through the heavens above.
