Nelson Monroe Hammond

Nelson Monroe Hammond gained his angel wings on October 1, 2023, in Burlington,
NC. He fought his final battle with cancer surrounded by his family. He was the true
definition of a cancer warrior.
Nelson was born on April 7, 1964, to Edward Hammond and TJ Maness. He lived his
life cooking, hunting, fishing, Nascar fan, and being an avid outdoor enthusiast. Most of
his Sundays were spent cheering on Chase Elliott with his life partner, Patty. Nelson
was an employee of Twin Lakes Retirement Community for many years before his
cancer diagnosis.

Nelson is survived by his life partner, Patty Smith, of the home. Brother Rodney
Hammond of Southport, NC. Chosen Daughter, Amber Daves. Chosen Granddaughter,
Elainea. Chosen Family, Doris Smith, Pam Grubb (Jamie).
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Hammond, and Mother, TJ Maness.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the outstanding staff of the ARMC
Intensive Care Unit. Nelson's final wish was to be remembered not memorialized. A
private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make
